Game Review : Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus

Wolfenstein 2 : The New Colossus takes the time tested approach of killing Nazis, throws a great interesting story behind it, near perfect game play, and delivers one of the best games of 2017.

The game picks up right after the previous one with your character in a wheelchair having to roll around while also killing his fair share of nazis. That moment alone builds up the tension and difficulty you will face the entire game.

Now be prepared because this game is hard, even on the easier difficulty. You will die a lot but at no time will you feel as if the game is being unfair. You’ll have to remember the games of years past where you don’t automatically pick up health and ammo instead having to run over bodies and boxes during combat to grab that ammo that could be life or death.

Now the game will let you in a split second go from run and gun game play to taking a stealth route or vice versa. It’s a game that allows you to play it as you wish. I found myself often times duel wielding a silenced pistol in one hand and a machine gun in another for moments when I needed that silent kill and moments when there was a room of nazis that needed killed.

Playing in a particular fashion or with certain weapons however will net you upgrades that will unlock. In the same fashion searching the world around you for upgrade boxes to help give your weapons the extra boost you’ll need.

Now aside from all the actions we are treated to a very deep, hard hitting, and emotional story. Cut scenes give us full insight into the world they have built around and even minor characters are fully fleshed out here. As heavy as it gets though it never loses sight of what it is there for or what your purpose is.

Overall Wolfenstein 2 puts out one of the best FPS games in years not only by story but by its flawless game play. Featuring to many heart racing action moments and perfect controls that let you dominate like almost no other game would this is a must play for any and all shooter fans.

Score : 9/10

  1. I used to love the old Wolfenstein games and have replayed Return to Castle Wolfenstein again and again. These newer titles have got insane graphics but I dont think they have the same magic as the old ones
