Mayhem (2017) Review

Mayhem is “The Belko Experiment” but on cocaine, and it’s everything you’ve ever wanted.

When a virus that lets peoples moral standings come undone gets unleashed in a law firm building where a employee is just fired and a women is denied the chance to save her home, chaos breaks out as the team goes against all those that wronged them.

The story is well done enough to be able to advance the plot and give the viewer points to go throughout the film while never trying to tack on more than needed which is a good thing here.

Director Joe Lynch thankfully is able to deliver on the title and give us Mayhem. Its enjoyable to watch a film where you can sit back and see chaos unfold. The use of weapons here is a always pleasant surprise (something I felt Belko Experimenter lacked) and the action scenes are well done.

Both Steven Yeun and Samara Weaving both give solid lead performances here. The film is mixed with small serious moments and quite over the top moments and both leads do well. Some smaller roles almost feel too over the top comical at moments but nothing where it hurts the film.

This should go down as one of the unexpected hits for 2017. Mayhem is a turn your brain off thrill ride that is much needed. This is one to check out for sure.
