XXX : Return Of Xander Cage is the sequel no one was asking for or thinking of. What I can assume was made just to cash in on Vin’s popularity right now, the new XXX film could of been a great action film but sadly just is boring and too fake.

The film is barely worth nothing even. It flows as easily as a action film would with a bland “save the world, double cross” angle. We find our hero Cage coming out of hiding to take down a villain with a deadly piece of technology known as “Pandora’s Box”. He simply agrees to help though based off thinking that this villain killed his former boss, who he seems to may or may not have liked. Thankfully at least the plot moves forward even if it’s as shallow as shallow gets.

For being an action film though the action here honestly it a disappointment. It starts off okay with an awesome shot of Cage boarding down a slope and sadly that is the best action sports shot of the movie and one of the only ones. What hurts though is the the first towards the middle takes a horrible step in it’s pacing and hurts the film. They add too much dialog in a attempt to make the story deeper but all it does is stop the film at it’s pace.

By far the worst part is the CGI here which is god awfully fake looking. You can blatantly tell many times they are poorly acting in front of a green screen. It completely tears you away from the film at all. The final shootout of the film as well is a letdown especially with including Ice Cube (not even a spoiler since they threw him in the trailer). If is funny having Cube show up since he took Vin’s place in the second film since he didn’t want to do it again (which could of been the reason the series didn’t take off).

I will say as expected though Donnie Yen is awesome and completely underused. Ruby Rose isn’t bad either and shows with some more roles she could be a decent enough action woman, though more than likely never the lead role.

Overall XXX 3 is a let down. A crap story, horrible CGI and bland action scenes mixed with slow pacing makes this one a bore to watch almost. If you must see it wait for a rental.

Score : 4/10
