Michael J Fox’s big return to prime time TV turns to be a flop in several manners.

The show follows Mike Henry who after quitting his news job after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease tries to keep busy with his family and daily life. We get glimpses of his attempts to make dinner, take his kids for errands and repairing a broken dishwasher. Soon though he decides that going back to work is the best bet.

My problem with the show is that everything feels off. I’ll start with the acting and on screen chemistry. The family themselves feel odd and out of place with each other. They then try to do the awkward talk to the camera sections that shows like Modern Family made so popular and again it just does not work. Michael J Fox himself is odd to watch on screen.

Don’t expect many laughs either. I managed to laugh twice during the episode. The problem is that they expect every line to be gold and hit home. Instead what it turns into is a 23 minute running joke about his Parkinsons. He picks at it, the family mocks it, and it seems like that is all anyone can mention or talk about. Instead of watching a show about one man trying to overcome it instead we get a nonstop mockery of it.

Overall I just can’t recommend this show to many. It just doesn’t do much right.

  1. Is it weird I’m surprised you didn’t like the debut episode? Aside the hero worship crap with the daughter, I thought it was a suitable return for Michael and laughed quite often. Granted it wasn’t the whole time, but it had some good jokes and decent character development.
