WWE Total Divas Season 1 Episode 1 Review

WWE Total Divas is WWE working with E! to bring a (scripted) reality show out that showcases the Divas more. Instead we get total drama fest and nothing but that.
The show follows the Bella Twins (Brie and Nikki) who are making their return, The Funkadactyls (Cameron and Naomi), Natalya, and upcomers Eva Marie, and Jojo. The Bellas are on their return and almost instantly everyone has a problem with them because after being gone for over a year they made a return as if they never left. It also helps they are dating John Cena and Daniel Byrant. The Funkadactyls who team up with Tensai and Brodus Clay are just starting out becoming more than just side roles to more of wrestlers. Natalya even with her experience and background (she is a member of the legendary Hart Foundation) seems to get pushed more to help others become stars and teach. Eva Marie and Jojo are the two new divas coming up from the developmental stage to learn.
Wrestlemania however is one of the main focuses of the season opener. Natayla gets the news after telling her family to come up for the show that she will not get the chance to wrestle. However the Bells and The Funkadactyls will be in a match against each other. No later than right before the match though, the rug gets pulled from below the divas as their match is cancelled because the match before it went over the time limit it had. It was moments like this that did put a real emotion onto it seeing as how what they have worked for was just as quickly taken away.
What kills the show however is the constant drama and how most of them act. The Bellas go between acting decent, to acting like idiots, to being completely unlikeable. Same goes for The Funkadactyls. They both constatnly go head to head and it makes both groups unlikeable. Natayla seems likeable but also has the same problem with complaining about The Bellas. Eva Marie and Jojo are still new but even Eva Marie starts to go against The Bellas.
In the end they left out the best diva of all and that’s AJ Lee. I’m guessing though AJ just didn’t want to get into something stupid like this. Watching the first episode was decent enough but I just don’t know how well they will be able to make a series out of this, I feel deeper down the road they are going to move away the wrestling aspect more and more and fall into the group of just another scripted reality TV show.
