Silent Hill Revelation (2012) Movie Review

Genre : Horror
Story (from IMDB) :
When her father disappears, Heather Mason is drawn into a strange and terrifying alternate reality that holds answers to the horrific nightmares that have plagued her since childhood.
This was another disappointment but again I already somewhat expected it to be. Silent Hill was a decent movie but nothing special enough or popular enough for that matter to deserve a sequel.
The story takes what was Silent Hill 3 the game as the main character Heather has to travel to Silent Hill to rescue her father. From there try to add in a half done story about how Heather was always drawn back to Silent Hill, how she has been there before but her life she was leading was all a lie, and other things that are only truly half explained. Plus there are scenes in the movie that happen then completely contradict themselves 5 minutes later. For example the lead character gives a speech in school telling everyone to leave her alone then 5 minutes later she decides to open up and tell the first guy to talk to her all of her secrets. There aren’t really any good characters to like in this movie either. Heather has personality issues where at times she is beyond scared to do anything while others she has extreme courage and can plow through the unknown. Every other character is too generic and easily forgettable. None of the acting stands out either. Heather is by far the best acted but even then she’s not great by any means.
Silent Hill was always great because of its atmosphere. Too bad this movie barely captures any of it. The majority of the creatures in Silent Hill look horrible. There are a few that actually look nice but some look like they were quickly threw together. The nurses look decent as does the Executioner looking creature (who is in the movie poster). I mean this movie features one of the worst looking / most non intimating monsters in recent history. It is a horrible looking spider monster made of mannequins. Not only is it laughable but the effort put into making it is just pathetic. I can’t blast everything though as some of the set pieces look good, it’s just too bad that everything can’t look good.
I will give a shout out to Malcolm McDowell though for being in it since he will be in anything now a days for the paycheck.
Overall there really aren’t any good things about this other than a few set pieces. I’d suggest just skipping this and watching the first one.
