Genre : Action
Story (from IMDB) :
A group of teenagers look to save their town from an invasion of North Korean soldiers.
Unlike most people I know I actually did enjoy this movie. If you take it as a mindless action movie you will have some fun with it but anything more and I can see why others would be disappointed.
The story still stays close to the original only this time it is North Korea taking over a small town. Also since its modern day we see more high tech weapons from the enemies but other than that the movie is a solid remake. Sure the story of a solider and a group of high school teenagers who go from kids to a unstoppable killing force is extremely unrealistic but again this is a movie where thinking isn’t necessary. Making them into a killing machine is just as unlikeable as Josh Peck being the captain of a football team though.
Since the movie is PG-13 the action isn’t really violent for the most part. Sure there are a few fist fights, car chases and a whole lot of shooting but it never gets graphic. You see bodies fall but never blood really even when they are displaying people being executed from point blank range. The chases tend to use constantly shifting camera angels which can be slightly annoying to watch. The firefights are at least entertaining to watch and there are quite a lot of explosions though some done for no reason at all. Watching them train and find out about their enemy also helps move the pace of the story along nicely.
The acting though is decent at best with Chris Hemsworth doing the best role. He at least looks and acts like the role of a trained solider. Josh Peck is decent at best but still acts overly emotional at moments. Josh Huchterson plays a very easily forgettable and generic role. The females in the movie all tend to also lump into one generic mold of everyone falls for someone and then crys about for most the movie.
Easily the best thing about this movie is just the action. Is it a great action movie, no. But is it something you can throw on and not have to think about, yes. Overall it’s worth a view.
