Review :

Another surprise of 2012. Not being a fan of teenage comedies or musicals this one was another surprise hit.

The story is still somewhat generic. Outcast girl joins club on fathers demand, starts to enjoy it, falls for guy, drama, and then happy ending. It won’t win any awards or be memorable for a long time but it at least helps the flow of the movie. Oddly enough too the singing in this movie doesn’t bother me. For the most part it usually has comedy going with it anyway and doesn’t last too long. The songs flow well together and actually sound decent. They put the right amount of songs in to not over do it.

By far though the best thing this movie has going for it is the laughs and that is largely due to the cast. Anna Kendrick and Brittney Snow are leading the cast in this film while not being just gorgeous to look at they also have constant funny moments. Rebel Wilson in the role of “Fat Amy” almost stands out though. She is constantly going off with memorable one liners. Most scenes she is in she almost carries the scene by herself. Some of her scenes may already have some effect lost based on trailers over using them too much.

When you look at it you know there might be a sequel and while not too many new ideas are formed and they decide to play it straight not only based on the story but by also keeping it PG-13 friendly it still is entertaining. It’s worth a watch for the laughs but after that you might not watch it again.
