Review :

After seeing Piranha 3DD and mildly enjoying it I though I would finally check out the first one to see if it was as enjoyable as the sequel. Sadly it didn’t even crack close.

Without really even trying to rate it off the insane story of Piranha’s coming back just in time for spring break the movie itself just never catches a strong grip. The first half tries to make too much from the already crazy stuff just to lead up to the second half. I felt like most people (minus the always amazing Elisabeth Shue) tried overacting too much. If people would have not tried to overact then it might have been better.

The second half even with all the insanity I still found rather boring. Sure the beginning when it really started going downhill was entertaining but towards the very end when most of it took place on a boat was boring to watch. Tension doesn’t work in a movie like this and to make it all focus on a scene like this lost a lot for the movie. If you would have stuck in insane amounts of gore and nudity like the majority of the film did then it would have been better. Though I did feel like a large amount of the nudity was thrown in just to kill time and really make sure it had a strong R rating.

Overall if you want to watch one of these films check out the sequel to this one. It has a lot more violence, laughs, and just a better flow.

Score :

3/10
