The Darkest Hour (2011) Movie Review
Released : Dec. 25th, 2011
Reviewed : Nov. 7th, 2012
Genre : Action
Story (from IMDB) :
In Moscow, five young people lead the charge against an alien race who have attacked Earth via our power supply.
Russia’s a cool backdrop for a movie like this. Too bad the movie itself isn’t better.
The story itself I think is just stupid beyond belief. Your “alien” creatures while invisible are cool but once you see them and see their face more than likely you will burst out in laughter from it. They try adding in rules along the way of what the aliens can and cannot do but all that leads is to drawn out scenes where they think suspense is happening but it turns out to be boring and not exciting in the least. We also have the large group of stupid people in this movie who think traveling long distances to find someone and something is a good idea when there are a large amount of invisible aliens outside.
If this movie proves anything though it is that Russians are crazy. I mean in this movie they are. Plus the secret alien weapon they make and use to destroy the invisible blobs looks a lot like something from Ghostbusters and works the same way. The Russians also seem to have unlimited ammo as well since the guy with the rocket launcher never runs out.
The FX are cool during the first part where they are in the club and the aliens first appear but after you see a few people die (in a way that is very much like the War Of The Worlds remake) then you’ve seen it happen a thousand times.
Now even with the flaws of this film it isn’t by any means terrible. It flows nicely and has a few entertaining scenes but overall unless your really bored and can’t find ANYTHING else to watch than you might enjoy it.
