30 Minutes Or Less (2011) Movie Review
Released : Aug. 12th, 2011
Reviewed : Nov. 3rd, 2012
Genre : Comedy
Story (from IMDB) :
Two fledgling criminals kidnap a pizza delivery guy, strap a bomb to his chest, and inform him that he has mere hours to rob a bank or else.
What happens when the director of Zombieland tries to make another film with the same lead star? You get a generic but decent comedy.
The plot for this film isn’t that deep. Guy wants to kill his father for his money but to do it he needs $100,000 to hire the assassins. So he picks the pizza boy, puts a bomb on him, and tells him to get the money. Nothing too deep but it works for the most part to get the film to keep moving.
Jesse Eisenberg plays the lead role and pretty much the same thing he did in Zombieland. Nothing too impressive from him as I feel like he is a Micheal Cera type actor who will always play the same role. Aziz Ansari plays Eisenberg’s best friend in the movie and as normal he keeps the laughs going and pretty much makes most scenes he’s in enjoyable. Danny McBride again plays the same role as always with the nonstop sex jokes and excessive cursing in every sentence. Sometimes he’s funny but he really does just try to swear as much as possible it seems even if the situation doesn’t call for it. Nick Swardson plays McBride’s partner in crime and just like Ansari he carries a lot of the scenes he is in.
The jokes are somewhat decent with only a few being anything memorable and even then you will forget about them soon after watching. Though I gotta say the joke they make involving the famous Contra code alone is great. Really the best scenes are the parts involving robbing a bank and stealing a car. Action wise the film delivers when it needs to and makes sure the action done is over the top.
Overall it is worth a view and will provide a laugh but I don’t think you will be rushing to watch it again too soon.
