Chernobyl Diaries (2012) Movie Review
Released : May 24th, 2012
Reviewed : Nov. 2nd , 2012
Genre : Horror
Story (from IMDB) :
Six tourists hire an extreme tour guide who takes them to the abandoned city Pripyat, the former home to the workers of the Chernobyl nuclear reactor. During their exploration, they soon discover they are not alone.
This will easily not only fall into my biggest disappointments of the year and by far one of the biggest wastes of a good story / setting in all movies. The setting of a horror movie taking place in the empty towns surrounding of the explosion when done right could be awesome. This however falls almost as far from awesome as one can get.
To start off the story already is far fetched enough with the whole extreme tourism plot since now you can pay to actually go visit there and it’s all completely legal and safe. Not to dwell on that part alone though just as the movie goes on everyone makes the same generic mistakes made in horror movies. It just turns into your average cliche film.
It isn’t like the actors in the film can carry a role themselves either as they are all extremely unlikeable and mainly overact. They aren’t believable in a single action they do.
You can’t even say the movie has some great monsters/mutants/ whatever they were because you don’t really see them. The brief outline you see of them makes them appear to be wanna be hills have eyes people.
The ending though makes this movie push that little point from really bad to beyond horrible. This movie decides that instead of trying to do anything original they will give it one of the most unoriginal overused cop out ends that horror movies get now a days.
Overall just avoid this. Other than seeing some nice views you won’t enjoy it at all.
