Here Comes The Boom (2012) Movie Review
Released : Oct. 12th, 2012
Reviewed : Oct. 23rd, 2012
Genre : Comedy
Story (from IMDB) :
A high school biology teacher looks to become a successful mixed-martial arts fighter in an effort to raise money to prevent extra-curricular activities from being axed at his cash-strapped school.
This will more than likely be one of my biggest surprises of 2012. I went into it expecting a mediocre comedy with a few funny moments but instead got a really funny comedy with not only alot of laughs but also some heart. (Don’t forget the whole MMA fight thing).
Kevin James is still playing the same role he has for most of his career but this film really shows that off well. He does a good job with his role of standing up for whats right and believing in what your dreams are no matter what. Henry Winkler was perfectly cast as the oddball music teacher with a heart of gold. He could have carried the movie by himself just based off how funny he was from time to time. The real surprise of the movie though was former MMA fighter Bas Rutton as the coach. He fit the role great again and was just overly funny with a extremely likeable personality. I feel like the cast was done great for this movie. Selma Hayek is also in doing her usual thing.
Now the story does enough to get you involved and the small twist towards the end was nice but you still know what the end result will be. Even with that the movie is just so funny that it doesn’t matter. I don’t know the last time I’ve laughed so hard at a comedy that wasn’t some R rated raunch fest. The jokes set themselves up nice and have a wide set of things to set them up. Some of the funniest things about the movie are the small jokes that are funny just because of how true they are. I mean they do have the slapstick “rude” humor you come to expect from a movie made by the “Happy Madison” team but it is family friendly.
Like I said this movie was surprising and is really worth a view. I don’t think anyone will be disappointed and it might surprise most people. Now only if Kevin James next movie can be as funny as like this and not go two steps backwards into more movies like “Zookeeper”. Overall it is a must see.
