Hostel Part 3 (2011) Movie Review
Released : December 27th, 2011
Reviewed : Sept. 25th, 2012
Genre : Horror
Story (from IMDB) :
While attending a bachelor party in Las Vegas, four friends are enticed by two sexy escorts to join them at a private party way off the Strip. Once there, they are horrified to find themselves the subjects of a perverse game of torture, where members of the Elite Hunting Club are hosting the most sadistic show in town
Now Hostel is one of those horror movies with a pretty basic plot and it is just popular based off the fact that it was one of the newer, bigger, and more successful films in the torture porn genre. Hostel 3 tries to almost add more depth into it then should be needed.
The first two hostels went like this : people get seduced then captured, then people pay to torture / kill or do whatever they want with them. This one however makes it where it is a gambling situation in the club where a room of VIPS bet on what the killer will use as a weapon, what the victim will say, and things of that nature. Now it is interesting but really takes a lot away from the factors that in the first two where it was just one person who had payed to torture them in a windowless cement room. Those also had the intense torture scenes which were not only loved because of the graphic violence but also because of the thrilling build up to it the scenes and during the scenes. This film doesn’t have that. The few torture scenes we do see are quick and over with without the effort done in the first two. For example the first torture scene is decent enough as to what he does but it is over with quickly plus they also dropped any realism from this movie. The first two were realistic somewhat during the scenes while this guy goes through a insane amount of pain that would send a normal person into shock and more than likely kill them. This person however doesn’t have either one of those things happen to him. Also the second death isn’t really torture since it is over so fast and what the person does to kill the victim is just boring.
I’d say some of the reasons this movie hasn’t been that successful is because not only has Eli Roth had not a single thing to do with the film but also it was released straight to dvd with little publicity but behind it. The actors are terrible and make you care at all about them. Also the fact that the plot tries to be too much towards the end and turns into a wanna be action thriller almost kills it.
Overall isn’t horrible and if you are a fan of either Hostel or the torture porn genre you’ll somewhat enjoy it at least. It’s worth a view if your bored.
