Story (from IMDB) :
A mother and daughter move to a new town and find themselves living next door to a house where a young girl murdered her parents. When the daughter befriends the surviving son, she learns the story is far from over.
I saw this movie at a free private pre-screening and I still feel as if I wasted my time. I do have to say first off why is this movie named “House At The End Of Street” because none of the houses seem to be at the end of the street! They never go into detail about them and for one thing her neighbors house where the murders place is right behind her house. At least it seems like that. Almost as if they are just on two streets near each other.
Also this movie is god awfully boring. I mean slow opening, slow pickup, and then when it finally picks up the twist is just stupid. It’s also as if threw out the movie it can’t decide what it should be. Is it a horror movie, a thriller, a psychological type horror movie, a teen angst / wannabe love story. None of these work out. Instead you get a slow film with a turnaround that doesn’t save it.
Jennifer Lawrence is pretty much just playing off her fame from “The Hunger Games” to get this movie role because she isn’t anything special in this movie. She doesn’t even look that great. Max Thieriot is decent as his character but after the twist you lose hope again that he can save the role. Elisabeth Shue is great as a new mom trying to help her daughter out. Also even at her age she is still great looking. She helps the movie a lot.
Without spoiling anything the ending is just like I said previously is stupid. They make a half hearted attempt almost and paced it horribly leading to it. Also at the very end before the credits they show another scene explaining the twist more, for one thing they should have bumped that like 20 minutes before in the movie where it might have helped. Also the sheer amount of hits and shots the person towards the end takes is insane.
Overall don’t waste your money. Other than Mrs.Shue being in this I can’t really find anything worth a viewing in this movie. Just another terrible PG-13 marketed “horror” movie that tries to go towards a young audience by having a current big name actress in it. Avoid it like the plague.
(Yes I like Elisabeth Shue so much she gets two points by herself)
