Review :

I went into this hearing about how it was so good, it was so scary, it was the step that horror movies needed to go in since it had a low budget and relied more on old school style scares rather than over the top CGI. I would like to know what movie those people were watching because I think it was a different movie.

Now I can get where they come from with trying to be a older style horror movie that relies more on jumps since the first half of the movie could be considered suspenseful. I considered it slow and boring. The film takes a rather long time to pick up and it only has the occasional jump scene. One thing I did notice though that I don’t think that the average viewer saw though is that they put in stuff during your average scene where nothing of any significance is happening. When someone is walking by a door you can see a ghost hiding in it. That was cool that they added some small stuff.

The second half of the film though just goes downhill. They abandoned any chance of trying to be scary by adding your average ghost story / ghost world into it. Not only does this throw the film down by a huge amount but it also puts in plot holes large enough to use as a pool. The plot holes just set it up for a sequel but they do enough stuff in the film without explaining it that it feels cheap.

I will say though one scene in particular where the small child dressed as a sailor while the Tiny Tim song was playing was not only funny but insanely creepy. I couldn’t stop laughing during it but at the same time it felt oddly disturbing. Also why does the main demon remind you of Darth Maul from Star Wars so much. Lastly I couldn’t help towards the end but feel like they took a lot of the sounds that were used in Drag Me To Hell for this movie.

Overall I could of never seen this and lived perfectly fine. There are a few good scenes but other than that the movie is nothing special.

  1. After hearing my supervisor explain how awesome Insidious was I put it in my Blockbuster at Home queue after I left my office at Dish. It wasn’t bad, but it definitely wasn’t what I though it was going to be either. The first half of the movie was ok but after Darth Maul showed up I didn’t really feel like watching the rest. I am happy I have unlimited rentals because I definitely would have asked for my money back for this one if I hadn’t.
