Story (from IMDB) :
Whilst attending a party, three high school friends gain superpowers after making an incredible discovery underground. Soon, though, they find their lives spinning out of control and their bond tested as they embrace their darker sides.
Well this was one film that I was definitely eager to see but like most films got set on the back burner. It even had glowing recommendations from a handful of people I know. Well, I don’t know what film these people were watching but I don’t think it was the same one I was.
First off, the whole shakey cam / found footage thing is entirely way overdone now and for some films it just is tacked on. For example I’ll use this one. They just tack on the whole found footage thing just by adding that the weird kid decides to start recording his life. It takes away from the film by doing this and in parts made it near unwatchable by how dark it was. Parts when they were in the cave and in the woods made it as if you were watching a black screen and just listening. It doesn’t add anything to the film by doing this. Next thing this movie really dragged on to me. There were many scenes that were played out far to long and just shouldn’t of been added. I mean even when they gained their powers the scenes were for the most part uninteresting with most of the memorable scenes being the ones from the previews.
Now the whole concept of random kids gaining powers and watching them try to deal with them is cool and all but the way it is done here is boring really. Characters die in anticlimactic ways and while watching the kids mess with their powers is interesting it just doesn’t do much. The entire spin with the kid dealing with his dad and sick mom added too much overacting into the scenes to cause any feeling into it and really just set it up for a huge anticlimactic disappointing ending. Now the end scene is cool and features some great special effects but it just ends just all of a sudden and while it is cool it just isn’t a satisfying ending.
Overall, the concept and some scenes (mainly ones from commercials) are good but the film is too slow and drawn out to really enjoy it.
