The Dictator (2012) Movie Review
Released : May 16th, 2012
Reviewed : June 10th, 2012
Genre : Comedy
Story (from IMDB) :
The heroic story of a dictator who risks his life to ensure that democracy would never come to the country he so lovingly oppressed.
Sacha Baron Cohen’s first take into making a comedy that for the most part follows a story and is scripted had most people wondering if it would actually be worthwhile or just be one bad continuous joke. I am happy to say that it has crossed those expectations greatly and turned out to be a very funny film.
Now sure the majority of the film is just dirty jokes, race jokes, sex/sexist jokes, and the like but it still is funny. Surprisingly they didn’t show all the funny parts in the previews either. Actually I would say what they show in the previews are some of the least funny scenes. I mean they are still funny but they are just the “safer” jokes. The film surprisingly doesn’t slow down really with the jokes and even towards the end it is still going with full force while still making a corky meaning to the film that is explained in the final speech. The cast is great with Ben Kingsley, Anna Faris, and cameos by the likes of Megan Fox and more. Even with it being scripted it still is a nonstop laugh. The film though is a hard one to go into though without spoiling any jokes or plot points.
Overall I will just make this a tiny review and say that it is easily worth a watch and will provide a great deal of laughs.
