Review :

A good adult themed sports film. Just what we needed. On top of that add tons of brutal on the ice fights. This film pleasantly surprised me (had good hopes for it too after it was referred to me from someone). The cast alone for this movie is great with Sean William Scott playing a role he normally doesn’t as the quite sensitive guy who’s job it is to fight (plus he enjoys it). Throughout the film you see him develop and it’s a nice change from roles he usually plays. Jay Baruchel on the other hand plays his best friend while also playing the loud character constantly cracking jokes and throwing as much profanity as he can. It works quite well and he delivers many great one liners and steals some scenes throughout the film. Live Schreiber also does great playing the other fighter in hockey who is yet to be rivaled and over time shows how he truly feels throughout the film leading to the big face off at the end. You also Eugene Levy as Glatt’s unsupportive father who for the short amount of time he is on screen you quickly hate. He just plays a extremely unlikeable character. I do wish Kim Coates’ character as the teams head coach would have had more screen time as he does a great job and is quite funny. The film has a good pace between laughs and fights and even if most of the characters don’t develop too much the film is quite a good time. Just don’t try to take it as more than it is and you’ll enjoy it. Overall it really is worth a watch.
